THIS IS SEAN MONTERROSA

He was literally kneeling down with his hands up when Vallejo police shot and killed him. He deserves justice.

Sean was only 22 when he was murdered. He was fiercely loyal and cherished by his family and friends. He loved to make art and fix cars. He deserved to live.

Sean Monterrosa was kneeling down with his hands up when Vallejo police shot and killed him at a local Walgreens during protests for George Floyd. He was unarmed and cooperative, but Vallejo police officer Jarrett Tonn shot Sean five times from behind the windshield of an unmarked police car.

He was a loving son and middle brother who worked with Latinx youth in the community and was dedicated to making a difference. He was a reader and an athlete who cared deeply for others—Sean’s very last text to his sister was a petition to get justice for George Floyd.

The officer who killed Sean has been involved in shootings before, and the Vallejo PD has been described as “out-of-control” for years.

Officer Jarrett Tonn of the Vallejo Police Department has a troubling history of violence. He basically shot and killed Sean in the police equivalent of a drive-by — never even getting out of his vehicle — and shooting Sean through the window of his car. It’s outrageous. Officer Tonn has been involved in three other shootings on duty in the last 5 years alone—and his department is just as violent. The Vallejo Police department has the highest rate of shooting residents in Northern California, and multiple officers have killed more than once. Tonn was fired in 2022, but in a dangerous and outrageous move, his termination was overturned and he has been reinstated to the Vallejo PD.

Not only did Vallejo PD wrongfully kill Sean, they left his sisters and girlfriend in the dark, frantically searching for their loved one with no information until they called the mortuary themselves.

AG ROB BONTA: PROSECUTE JARRETT TONN FOR KILLING SEAN MONTERROSA AND INVESTIGATE VALLEJO PD!

Vallejo PD officer Jarrett Tonn killed Sean Monterrosa over three years ago and he still hasn't been held accountable. In fact, he has just gotten his job back. 😡 The Vallejo PD also has a horrific ritual of bending the badges of officers who kill in the line of duty, celebrating their brutality in backyard barbecues. And the police chief in Vallejo, who was working to implement positive changes, was sent racist death threats by the police union and forced to resign.

Enough is enough. California Attorney Rob Bonta needs to take action to finally hold Jarrett Tonn accountable and end unchecked police violence in Vallejo. ADD YOUR NAME to demand that Bonta:

  • Complete the investigation into former Vallejo officer Jarrett Tonn and charge him for the unjust killing of Sean Monterrosa.

  • Implement a federal oversight model for the Vallejo PD.

  • Open a federal pattern-or-practice investigation into the badge bending rituals and the culture of violence within Vallejo PD.
